Amanda Young is an Assistant Professor of Adapted Physical Activity (APA) in the Physical and Health Education Department at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (SRU). She received her bachelor’s of science degree in physical education from Texas Christian University (TCU), and her master’s degree and PhD in adapted physical education from Texas Woman’s University (TWU). Dr. Young is a certified adapted physical educator (CAPE) and taught adapted physical education for 9 years at two laboratory schools at TCU. Additionally, she was an adjunct professor at TWU. She has taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels related to APA, pedagogy, disability across the lifespan, and disability sport. Dr. Young is also involved in several practicum programs at SRU to support experiential learning and community physical activity engagement. Her research area of interest includes gross motor development and interventions and adapted physical education for young children with Down syndrome. She also works closely with families to promote home based motor activities and interventions. Related to scholarship, Dr. Young has 23 presentations at local, state, and national levels. She has 28 publications related in her specific research area (1 reading in a well-known textbook in our profession, 7 publications, and 20 research poster presentations).
